The 2018 Mazda CX-5 Earns a Top Safety Pick+ Rating

Recently, Mazda proudly announced that the 2018 Mazda CX-5 had been named a Top Safety Pick+ by the nonprofit Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The CX-5 was the first vehicle in the small SUV category to have earned the honor.

In order to earn a Top Safety Pick+ rating, a vehicle must earn "Good" ratings in five proprietary IIHS safety tests, as well as receiving an "Acceptable" or "Good" rating for a sixth test. Then, the vehicle also must receive a rating of "Advanced" or "Superior" for front crash protection, and a headlight rating of "Good."

The 2018 Mazda CX-5 boasts the Mazda i-ACTIVSENSE safety suite, which includes forward obstruction warning, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, Smart City Brake Support, and Distance Recognition Support System. It goes without saying that these features are quite helpful when you're traveling around Los Angeles, Alhambra, Pasadena, Van Nuys, and Hollywood.

CX-5 models that were built after March 2018 and are equipped with adaptive front lighting systems earned the Top Safety Pick+ rating. Models that don't feature the adaptive front lighting system earned a Top Safety Pick rating.
