Although tradition dictates the role of the midsize sedan as a family vehicle, it’s been increasingly supplanted by crossovers and SUVs. But that doesn’t mean that they’re not popular, and recently, automakers have been building them to offer more value and excitement than ever. But the most alluring by far is the 2017 Mazda6.

At a glance, it’s easy to mistake the Mazda6 for a luxury sedan. Owing to its tapered roof and evocative, swooping body lines, this midsize sedan was among the first to put its best foot forward in the looks department. The long hood and LED daytime running lights provide a premium feel, and the muscular rear haunches lend themselves well to the Mazda6’s athletic character.

The theme of style beyond price continues in the cabin, where the Mazda6 offers a spacious layout adorned with upscale fabrics and other materials. At the top of the center stack sits a 7-inch MazdaConnect screen, controlled by a rotary dial just aft of the shifter. Higher trims see even more opulent trappings, such as leather and a heads-up display.

But where the Mazda6 is good at standing in the static “look and feel” department, its driving experience is another high point. Power is delivered by a 2.4-liter SKYACTIV-G four-cylinder with 184 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque, and up to 35 mpg on the highway. Most buyers will opt for the automatic transmission, but enthusiasts will love the logic of the six-speed manual—a rarity these days. On the road, the Mazda6 offers comfort, but when the road gets winding, you’d be hard pressed to find another mainstream sedan that can perform as well.

Features are value-packed and numerous, but starting from the bottom won’t leave you disappointed at all. A base Mazda6 Sport comes standard with keyless entry, push-button start, infotainment, and a rear-view camera. 2017.5 base models get blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert systems. Moving up brings leather seats, Bose premium audio, radar-based cruise control, and regenerative braking.

Offered in Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring, all that’s left is to discover which model is the best fit for your needs and tastes. Our Mazda dealership in Glendale, CA would be happy to assist you in that mission. If you have any questions, or are ready to firm up a test drive appointment, contact us at your convenience.
